FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Wildcats came alive in the third set. Fort Valley State had new life and had a strong third set burst, but fell short against Shorter University, 3-0, in women's volleyball Monday evening.

After having a tough time in the opening sets, the Hawks (10-11) took a 2-0 lead with wins of 25-16 and 25-6. The Wildcats (3-16) opened a 3-1 lead and took a second advantage, 8-6. The home team held close being down by three, 21-18, before the Hawks posted the final four tallies (25-18).

Morgan Gooden hit .444 with four kills in nine swings on the FVSU frontline. Morgan Hebert added four kills, 11 assists and four digs. Raven Edwards contributed four kills, six digs and three blocks.

FVSU returns home Thursday evening, Oct. 12, in a 6 p.m. SIAC match versus Clark Atlanta.
