Wildcats Lose Momentum, Yellow Jackets Prevail in Four

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Wildcats rebounded and gained the mid-match momentum, but they were unable to sustain it Thursday night. After Fort Valley State tied the match at a set apiece, Allen University rebounded, won the following two sets and prevailed to a 3-1 women's volleyball win.

After the Yellow Jackets (12-12/6-8 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference East) edged a 25-23 first set win, the Wildcats (6-19/4-13 SIAC East) built an early set two lead and never gave it up and Syraih Wint capped it will a winner for the 25-18 win. Allen took back the momentum midway through the third set and went on for back-to-back set wins of 25-16 and 25-14 to end the match.

Versatile freshman Kaila Copeland recorded 19 assists in her first full game in the setter position to go with four kills, five block assists and an ace. Morgan Gooden downed a team-high 11 kills along with three digs, a block, two aces and an assist.

Jayda Mikell chipped in eight blocks and four kills and Raven Edwards added four kills. Sarah Rosario dug 14 attacks along with two assists and an ace.

Allen finished with three players of 10 kills in Natalia Meciejewska, Marlaysia Westbrook, Maliyah Spencer.

FVSU will now be off until next Wednesday (Nov. 2) in a 6 p.m. match at Benedict College.
