COLUMBIA, S.C. – In the final stretch of the regular season, the Wildcats are still battling hard. After taking the opening two sets, host Benedict College saw Fort Valley State take the third set, before it had to outlast the visitors, 27-25, in set number four on Wednesday night.
The Tigers captured the first pair of sets, 25-20 and 25-23. The Wildcats were not done and registered a 25-19 third set to stay alive. FVSU tied the fourth game at 21, but Benedict held on for the 27-25 final to end the match, 3-1.
Laiani McCullough registered a double-double with 25 assists and 10 digs to go with five kills. Raven Edwards downed 13 kills on the FVSU frontline. Destinee Jackson added 10 digs, eight kills and three total blocks, while Morgan Gooden hit seven winners. Sarah Rosario and Michelle Lynch paced the visitors defense with 27 and 11 digs. Kaila Copeland had 10 assists and six digs.
FVSU completes its regular season for 'Senior Night' on Thursday evening, Nov. 3, in a 6 p.m. match against Edward Waters.
