Wildcats Volleyball Slips up Against Lady Panthers

ATLANTA, Ga. – After a week off, the Wildcats could not hold leads in their return to the court Tuesday night. Fort Valley State ran out to leads in the opening two sets, but Clark Atlanta rallied and took away a 3-0 women's volleyball victory for the match.

FVSU (3-14/2-9 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference East) held two four-point leads in the opening set, 12-8 and 14-10, but it saw Clark Atlanta hand around to turn a tie at 21 into a 25-23 win. The Wildcats again started strong with a 5-2 set number two lead only to see the Lady Panthers rattle off 10 unanswered points on the way to a 25-9 win. The visitors were close in the early part of set three, 7-6 and 9-8, but Clark Atlanta for the third time had enough to finish the match by a 25-17 tally.

Raven Edwards and Hallea Gibbs paced FVSU with five kills apiece. Edwards added an ace and assist, while Gibbs dug five attacks. Laiani McCullough contributed 11 assists, two kills and two digs. Morgan Hebert finished with nine assists and three kills. Kaila Copeland had 13 digs and two aces and Sara Rosario 11 digs.

FVSU has Wednesday off before it plays at rival Albany State Thursday night, Oct. 6, in a 6 p.m. match.
