Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Chris Myers

Wildcats Late Comeback Falls Short Against Argos

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Wildcats suffered a tough end of the first half and they couldn't quite rebound from it. Fort Valley State pushed hard late, but its comeback fell short against host West Florida, 63-57, to wrap up the men's basketball Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference/Gulf South Conference Crossover event.

FVSU (0-2) trailed by eight points, 58-50, with 2:34 left and Myson Lowe downed a triple to pull the team to a 60-55 difference with 42.2 seconds. The Wildcats were only able to add two Lowe free throws with 18.2 seconds as the Argos (2-0) held on.

For the second night in a row, FVSU started strong and led 13-9 on a Quincy Young hook shot at 10:58 left in the first stanza. After West Florida slipped ahead by a point at 14-13, Rob Kendrick hit a jumper, Chris Volo added a putback and Pierre Mitchell made one of two free throws for an 18-14 advantage with 6:24 in the first half. West Florida scored the final 12 points in those final six minutes, and it would add the first two points of the second half and never lost the lead once it was gained in the last 24:50.

K.J. Doucet scored 10 of his team-high 13 points in the second half on 5 for 11 shooting to go with three rebounds and three assists. JaMarcus Scott chipped in eight points on 3 for 6 from the floor, including 2 of his 3 3-point attempts. Lowe added seven points and two assists. Mitchell and Young had six points each.

FVSU stays on the road for a Wednesday night, Nov. 16, contest at Georgia Southwestern for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
