Wildcats Football NCAA DII Playoff Hopes Dashed

11/13/2022 8:41:00 PM

INDIANAPOLIS – The Wildcats breakthrough 2022 season came to a sudden end on Sunday evening. Fort Valley State's NCAA Division II Football Playoff hopes were dashed as it was left out of the 28-team field.
FVSU went into the week as the No. 7 team of Super Region 2. The top seven teams of each of the four Super Regions make the 28-team field.

The Wildcats' regular season ended with their 31-21 win over rival Albany State in the Fountain City Classic on Nov. 5. The victory proved to not be enough as FVSU was left as the final team left out of the field.

On a big positive note, FVSU and first-year Head Coach Shawn Gibbs recorded its first eight-win season in a decade at 8-2 since the program was 8-3 for the 2012 season. The Valley's eight wins was also a 3-game improvement from the 2021 mark of 5-5.

FVSU will have a big group of All-Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference First and Second Team members to be announced on Monday.
