Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Chris Myers

Wildcats Never Trail, Take Down Golden Tigers

TUSKEGEE, Ala. – The Wildcats scored their most points of the early season and saw it lead to success for them. Fort Valley State netted the men's basketball game's opening four points and never trailed on the way to taking down Tuskegee University, 70-68, on the road Saturday afternoon.

Building the largest lead of 15 points, 25-10, halfway through the opening half, FVSU (2-4/1-0 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference East) led by nine at half, 43-34.

The Golden Tigers (4-2/0-1 SIAC West) cut the difference to two points twice, 52-50 and 54-52, between 8:26 and 6:48 left in the contest. After the second slicing of the margin, the Wildcats responded with the next seven points, four coming as part of K.J. Doucet's game-high 24-point effort, to make it 61-52 at 5:08. Tuskegee downed a triple to make it, 63-60, at 2:02, but Doucet answered with a free throw and then another jumper after Quincy Young swiped the ball to push it back to 66-60. Following Doucet's final two free throws made it 70-65 with 27 ticks, Tuskegee connected on a final triple with one second left for the two-point final difference.

For the first time this season after doing it six times as a freshman last year, Doucet hit for 20-plus points with 24 on 6 of 10 from the floor and 11 of 15 from the foul line to go with five rebounds and two assists. Young was the lone other double-figure FVSU scorer with 10 points on 4 of 5 shooting. JaMarcus Scott added seven points and four boards, while Myson Lowe had six points. Khadim Samb, who had six rebounds, Pierre Mitchell and Antonio Pelham all added five points.

Gregg Boyd paced Tuskegee with 17 points.

Following the opening two buckets of the game by Joe Williams, Doucet dunked it home for a 10-3 lead only 3:43 into the day. Scott drained a trey to extend the margin to 11 points, 17-6, three minutes later, before Young made it 22-8 with a layup at 11:25. Pelham hit his first 3-pointer of the season at 10:36 for what would be the game's biggest difference of 15 points, 25-10, 9:24 into the game.

FVSU stays on the road where it will play a Monday night, Nov. 28, contest at Spring Hill College starting at 8:30 p.m. ET.
