Wilson Rumbles Way to SIAC Football Offensive Player of the Week Honor

11/7/2022 4:42:00 PM

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Wildcat running back broke into daylight all afternoon in Columbus. Fort Valley State's Emanuel Wilson was the workhorse and rumbled his way to 221 rushing yards to lead the team's effort in a 31-21 win over rival Albany State at the 32nd Annual Fountain City Classic and received the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Football Offensive Player of the Week honor.

The SIAC's top and one of NCAA Division II's best running backs ran better than any back against rival Albany State to help snap a four-game series skid for FVSU (8-2). Leading 24-21 late in the fourth quarter, Wilson tore off a 37-yard gainer to start the game-clinching drive and finished off the possession with the final 23 yards for the touchdown with 1:47 remaining.

The redshirt junior ran for his 221 yards on 28 carries with scores of three, one and 23 yards. He also caught three passes for six yards for 227 yards of total offense, which eclipsed ASU team total offense of 208 yards.

It was Wilson's second 200-plus yard game of the season after he opened the year running for 262 yards against SIAC West champion Tuskegee. He stands sixth in NCAA Division II with 1,371 yards and a 137.1 yard per game average, while the running back leads the SIAC.

Wilson and the Wildcats finished the regular season at 8-2 and they will wait after this coming weekend's final Division II games to see if they received one of the seven Super Region 2 national playoff bids.
