Wildcats Claims Rights to Final 4 Minutes, Gives Magicians the Men's Basketball Defeat

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Wildcats proved to be the better team down the Saturday afternoon stretch. Ja'Marcus Scott's inside 3-point play started a 10-point run and propelled Fort Valley State to victory in the game's final four minutes and gave visiting LeMoyne-Owen College a 75-64 men's basketball defeat.

After the Magicians (7-2/2-1 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference West) edged ahead, 58-56, on a layup with 3:57, Scott drove into the lane and put in the bucket with harm 16 seconds later and added the free throw to begin the home spurt. After a pair of Myson Lowe free throws, Scott downed a trey with 2:08 remaining to make it a two-possession game, 64-58. K.J. Doucet hit his own jumper to complete the run, 66-58, with 1:35 to go and it was enough to take away the team's third victory in a row.

With the third victory in as many games, FVSU improves to 4-4 on the year, which is the latest into a year to be at least .500 in since December of 2017. The Wildcats also go to 3-0 in the SIAC East.

After only three first-half points, Doucet finished as the FVSU top scorer with 15 points on 5 of 8 attempts, seven rebounds and two assists. Scott drained 5 of 7 shots for 12 points and five board on the defensive side. Lowe made 9 of 10 free throws as part of his 11 points and handed out seven assists. Quincy Young produced a solid nine points and five rebounds off the bench, while Khadim Samb chipped in nine points.

Andrew Anderson had top honors for the Magicians with 13 points.

FVSU stays at home for a Monday night, Dec. 3, contest against Lane College. Tip is set for 7:30 p.m.
