FVSU’s Lowe Picks up SIAC Men’s Basketball Newcomer of the Week Award

ATLANTA, Ga. – For the second week in a row, the Wildcats received some league recognition. Fort Valley State's Myson Lowe played his way in the team's two victories to the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Newcomer of the Week award announced Tuesday.

The Wildcat point guard helped his team sweep a pair of SIAC West opponents with a 94-85 victory at Spring Hill College on Nov. 28 and came home to defeat LeMoyne-Owen College (Dec. 3) in a 75-64 final. In the two games, Lowe averaged 19.0 points, 2.5 rebounds, 7.5 assists and a steal per game.

The Atlanta, Ga., product exploded for a season-best 27-point effort at Spring Hill where he connected on 8 of 13 shots, including 3 of 6 from 3-point range, and all eight of his free throw attempts. He also handed out eight assists to go with three rebounds and a steal.

Over the weekend, Lowe was steady again in the backcourt where he dished seven assists. He made nine of his 10 free throws as part of his 11-point afternoon with two rebounds and a steal to round out his day.

The sophomore guard has helped FVSU lead the SIAC East in the early season at a perfect 4-0 mark and the Wildcats are over .500 at 5-4 for the first time since February of 2018.
In nine games, Lowe ranks second on the team at 12.4 points per night, while he leads with 3.3 assists per contest. The guard's 18 made 3-pointers is tops on the Wildcats and is also tops in free throw percentage at 88.9% (24 of 27). He also pulls down 2.7 rebounds and registers 1.0 steals per game thus far.

FVSU is off for finals this week, before it hosts Toccoa Falls College in a non-conference tilt next Monday night, Dec. 12, in a 7:30 p.m. game.
