Wildcats Battle All Match, Fall to Pioneers

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – It was another lengthy road trip for the new Wildcats program. After coming up short in the opening two sets, Fort Valley State held a five-point third-set lead, but host Tusculum University answered to complete the 3-0 men's volleyball win Friday night.

After back-to-back Jaxson Hicks kills, the Wildcats (1-6) trailed 11-8, but the Pioneers (2-7) finished the match on a 10-1 spurt to take set 1 by a 25-13 final. Another Hicks kill pulled FVSU to within 8-6 in set 2, but Tusculum broke open the set a few points later and led by 10, 21-11, before a 25-14 final. Trailing 13-10 in set 3, Jamil Scott put together some visitor kills for the first FVSU lead 14-13. Down 16-15, the Wildcats ran off six-straight tallies for a 21-16 advantage only to see the Pioneers answer by scoring nine of the last 11 points to edge out a 25-23 final set.

Scott paced FVSU with eight kills with only one error in 12 attacks for a .583 percentage. Oshane Farquharson contributed six kills, seven digs and a block, while Hicks had six kills, three digs and two blocks. Saferino Dour and Rashaun Wright added three kills apiece. Justin Yates handed out 24 set assists.

FVSU travels right back to The Valley where it will host Emmanuel College in a 6 p.m. Saturday evening, Feb. 19, match in HPE Arena.
