Wildcats Never Trail, Post Homecoming Win over Golden Tigers

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Wildcats send the fans away happy for the Spring Homecoming matchup. Fort Valley State never trailed Saturday afternoon and posted a solid, 62-59, victory over Tuskegee University in the men's basketball regular season finale.

In a second half margin of never more than two possessions, the contest came down to the final minute of play. After the Golden Tigers' (15-12/11-7 SIAC West) Devin Booker made his seventh-consecutive point to tie the game for the third time in less than two minutes at 59, Pierre Mitchell made the second of two free throws with 50 seconds. With 22 seconds left, Tuskegee missed a potential go-ahead jump shot, K.J. Doucet pulled down the board and made both ensuing foul shots. A final game-tying visitors' 3-point attempt went off the iron and Doucet pulled in the board to seal the deal.

Ty'Reek Johnson was the first-half FVSU (7-19/6-11 SIAC East) scoring punch with 12 of his 16 points as he finished 8 of 14 from the field with five rebounds. Kenton Eskridge scored 11 of his 16 in the second half, including a long 3-pointer and an inside jumper both as the shot clock ran out on two difference possessions.
