FVSU Suffers Tough Softball Opening Day Against Middle Georgia State

2/3/2022 6:52:00 PM

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – With a nice Thursday afternoon crowd, the Wildcats took the field for the first time this spring. Fort Valley State suffered a tough 2022 season opener as it dropped a softball twinbill to Middle Georgia State, 14-0 in six innings and 12-2 in five frames.

The Knights (2-0) plated five runs in the top of the fourth to break open a scoreless opening contest and added a second big frame in the sixth for the win. Trailing 10-0 in the home third inning of game two, the Wildcats (0-2) saw both Tiffany Rose and Morghan Holland line triples to right field to plate two runs, but they could not come back any further.

Over 11 innings, FVSU recorded only five hits. Holland went 2 for 3 in the late game with her triple and two RBI. Rose tripled, while both Rasheedah Hasan and Destiny Fitzpatrick singled in the fourth inning of game one.

FVSU has a week off to regroup before it hosts Trinity Baptist next Friday afternoon, Feb. 11, in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
