Wildcats Let Second-Half Lead Slip Away, Fall to Yellow Jackets

COLUMBIA, S.C. – With a quick turnaround from Saturday in the same city, the Wildcats were ready to continue their 2022 success. Fort Valley State let a second-half, eight-point lead slip away and fell to host Allen University, 77-69, in a men's basketball Monday night final.

The Yellow Jackets (5-15) posted a quality effort midway through the first half and opened a 10-point lead with 6:05 in the first 20 minutes. The Wildcats (5-15), though, bounced back and tied the game at 33 by intermission. FVSU rushed out to an eight-point advantage with 10:04 left in the contest only to see it evaporate and see Allen finish strong for the surprise win.

Kenton Eskridge downed 5 of his 9 shots for a FVSU-high 14 points to go with six rebounds and three assists. Ty'Reek Johnson added 13 points and four boards, while Joe Williams banked home 6 of 9 attempts for 12 points on the inside. K.J. Doucet had 10 points and seven rebounds.

Darius Williams led all scorers with 23 points on the night for Allen.

FVSU returns home for a makeup Wednesday night, Feb. 9, contest against Savannah State. The Wildcats welcome fans back to HPE Arena for 'Greek Night' starting at 7 p.m.
