Johnson Receives SIAC Softball Pitcher of the Week Honor

3/1/2022 2:56:00 PM

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Wildcats have a consistent performer in the circle. Fort Valley State's Caprice Johnson received the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week honor announced Tuesday.

The sophomore posted a solid two-day weekend for the honor. She logged 16 innings over three games where she allowed only three earned runs for a 1.31 ERA with 18 hits, three walks and nine strikeouts.

Last Saturday, Johnson was a hard-luck losing pitcher where she went the full seven frames. She allowed only three hits, one earned runs, a walk and fanned three batters, but saw the Wildcats (4-10) fall 3-2 on a fielding error allowing the two Edward Waters runs to score to decide the contest.

Caprice came on in relief in game two of the twinbill where she allowed an earned run and eight hits in a no decision.

Johnson finished the two days with another complete game. This time, the Woodstock, Ga., native scattered seven hits, three walks and an earned run while striking out six over six innings for the win.

In nine appearances and seven complete games, Johnson has a 3.34 ERA over 52.1 innings pitched with 31 strikeouts to 10 walks so far in 2022.

The Wildcats are off until March 10-12 when they play six games in the SIAC Crossover event in Jasper, Ala.
