Wildcats Big 7th Overtakes Dragons, Falls to Golden Tigers

JASPER, Ala. – The Wildcats used a big last at bat and captured a Friday afternoon win. Fort Valley State used a big seventh-inning outburst to overtake Lane College, 6-3, but Tuskegee recorded three multiple-run frames for a 14-3 victory in the second game of Day 2 of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Crossover event.

Behind 2-1 heading into the top-of-the seventh, Hailey Bracey tied the game with a RBI double to left field, before Rasheedah Hasan laced a two-run single three hitters later and Meghan Holland followed with her own RBI hit for a 6-2 lead. Lane College was able to push home a single run, but it was not enough in the 6-3 FVSU win.

After Tuskegee put four scores on the board in the top of the fourth, FVSU (5-13) received doubles from Holland and Laila Lavette for a single run. The Golden Tigers extended their lead to 8-1, before the Wildcats were able to score three times in the home sixth off a Lavette and Riley Jenkins singles and a Hasan ground out to make it 8-4. Tuskegee, though, went back in the seventh with five more tallies and 13-4 final.

Holland led the FVSU hitters with a 4 for 7 day with a double, two runs and two RBI. Lavette and Bracey doubled and singled, while Kaitlin Gardner and Jenkins singled twice. Hasan had a single and three RBI. Tiffany Rose lofted a double versus Lane with Jakiyra Lemmon hitting one single.

Caprice Johnson logged the complete-game win against Lane. She went seven innings, scattered nine hits and three earned runs with four strikeouts.

FVSU completes the three-day event on Saturday with matchups versus Kentucky State (11 a.m.) and LeMoyne-Owen College (3:30 p.m.).
