Wildcats Explode for 55 Runs in Weekend Sweep of Yellow Jackets

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Wildcats were alive, hot and productive all weekend long. Fort Valley State exploded for 55 runs and claimed three run-rule road wins over Allen University in dominating fashion.
 
The Wildcats (9-15) opened the 3-game set with a 17-0 shutout and followed with victories of 19-4 and 19-2 as all three were in five innings over the Yellow Jackets.
 
In the three games, FVSU had four players with 5-plus hits and two with four apiece for the weekend. Both Riley Jenkins and Alisha Fabin combined to go 12 for 17. Jenkins was 6 for 9 with 7 runs, a double, a triple and 5 RBI, while Fabin lined 6 hits in 8 at bats with 7 runs, a double, a triple, one home run and 7 RBI.
 
Laila Lavette powered a pair of homers and a double as part of her 5 for 7 effort with 7 runs and 3 RBI. Amaya Pagan went 5 for 8 with 4 runs. Rasheedah Hasan was also 4 for 6 with 6 runs, two doubles, a home run and three runs batted in. Hailey Bracey added two singles and a double with 5 runs and Morghan Holland 4 of 9 with a double and triple and 4 RBI.
 
In the circle, Caprice Johnson posted a 2-hit shutout with 6 strikeouts in game one, while Ryleigh Murray fanned nine over five innings in the third contest.
 
FVSU returns to action next weekend in a Saturday-Sunday (March 26-27) SIAC East series at Savannah State.
