Savannah State Takes Pair from FVSU Softball

SAVANNAH, Ga. – A tough Saturday afternoon on the diamond for the Wildcats. Savannah State edged Fort Valley State in the opener, 5-2, before it's big fourth in the late contest completed the day, 19-7.
 
A Jakiyra Lemmon RBI single in the top of the sixth cut the Wildcats (9-17/2-6 SIAC East) deficit to 3-2. The Tigers (5-12/3-7 SIAC East) added a pair in the home sixth for the 5-2 final.
 
In the late contest, FVSU pulled ahead, 7-6, in the top of the fourth off a Ja'Necia Barber single to center field to bring around Hailey Bracey. Savannah State, though, exploded for 13 runs on nine hits and two visitors' errors to pull away in the home fourth.
 
Amaya Pagan led the FVSU offense with two doubles and a single with two RBI. Barber added two hits and three runs scored, while Lemmon doubled and singled. Alera Buie contributed three singles and an RBI. Bracey and Riley Jenkins both singled two times.
 
FVSU stays in Savannah State for the final game of the series in a 1 p.m. Sunday, March 27, game.
