Wildcats Sweep Past Thorobreds, Claim Second Victory

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – After a frustrating five-set Friday night defeat, the Wildcats rebounded on a sunny Saturday afternoon. Fort Valley State rode point runs in each set to sweep past Kentucky State, 3-0, and claim the program's second men's volleyball victory of the season.

After the Thorobreds scored the opening five points of the match, the Wildcats (2-7) ran off the next four, edged ahead 16-13 and used a 10-0 run from there for the eventual 25-19 win. Trailing 13-11 in set two, FVSU posted five-straight and nine of the next 10 points to reverse the lead and went on for a second 25-19 win. Opening set number three with a 6-1 advantage, the home team increased the difference to eight, 11-3, off three-straight Jaxson Hicks aces and went on for the final five points to complete the straight-sets sweep, 25-15.

Hicks paced the Wildcats with nine kills, five digs and three aces. Saferino Dour hit .455 with six kills and one error in 11 attacks, while he also had three blocks, two digs and an ace. Jamil Scott chipped in five kills, three aces and a pair of blocks. Justin Yates dished out 24 assists to go with three digs.
