FORT VALLEY, Ga. – In the slightest of margins, the Wildcats were just short on Monday night. Maryville (Mo.) University edged three close sets over Fort Valley State in men's volleyball, 3-0, in a non-conference battle.

After the Wildcats (2-8) led for most of the opening set by as many as four points twice, the Saints rallied for five late ties until they took advantage of back-to-back home attack errors for the 26-24 win. The second set was the exact opposite as Maryville led by five points, 19-14, before FVSU ran off four-straight points for a 23-23 tie. The visitors downed two kills in a row for a 25-23 set number two win. FVSU battled back from slim margins the entire third set, before it tied the score at 21-21. The Saints netted the next two points and held on for the 25-22 final and straight-sets win.

Both Jaxson Hicks and Oshane Farquharson lined 10 kills apiece. Hicks added three aces, three digs and two blocks, while Farquharson had four digs and two blocks. Rashaun Wright pounded nine kills with two errors in 12 attacks for a .583 percentage to go with three blocks. Justin Yates handed out 30 assists to go with two kills and a dig.

Jacob Fischer led Maryville with nine kills and four blocks.

FVSU will now be off until it has a 6 p.m. Saturday evening, March 12, match at Emmanuel College.
