FVSU Football’s Classic for Columbus Game Cancelled, Moved Back to Campus

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – Fort Valley State University (FVSU) Athletics announces the Classic for Columbus against Morehouse College has been canceled and moved back to Wildcat Stadium. The Wildcats will take the opportunity to welcome the rivalry game with the Maroon Tigers back to the Fort Valley campus for a 2 p.m. matchup on October 15.

The Classic for Columbus was scheduled to take place in Columbus, Ohio. After the search for a game venue was unsuccessful, the Classic's President and CEO John Pace had to share the disappointing news with both FVSU and Morehouse College.

"Classic For Columbus owes you a debt of gratitude for your willingness to work with this organization. We will look for opportunities to support your universities and football programs in the future," shared Pace. "My team and I remain committed to our mission, which is to promote education, economic development and diversity while raising funds for scholarships and institutions of higher learning."

FVSU now adds this October 15 Senior Day contest to its other two home games of September 17 against Allen University and the annual Homecoming event on October 1 versus Benedict College.

"While we were disappointed that our student-athletes will not have the opportunity to take part in the Classic for Columbus, we are looking forward to hosting Morehouse College on what will be our Senior Day. It will be an opportunity for us to recognize the seniors for their contributions from their fans, families, and peers," stated FVSU Director of Athletics Dr. Anthony Holloman.
