FVSU Tough Opening Women’s Volleyball Night Against ASU

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – With an excited crowd in HPE Arena, the Wildcats could not send their fans home with a win. Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference East favorite Albany State rode a fast start of the match and a big run in the second set on the way to a 3-0 women's volleyball win over Fort Valley State Thursday.

The Golden Rams (1-0) ran out to a 12-1 first set lead and broke open an 8-8 tie of set two, before going on a 12-1 run in a 25-9, 25-13 and 25-11 final scores versus the Wildcats (0-1).

On a tough hitting night, Raven Edwards topped the FVSU stats with three kills and five digs. Laiani McCullough added nine digs and two kills, while setter Morgan Hebert finished with 11 assists, four digs and a kill. Elizabeth Moore dug 11 balls on the defense.

Jenae Thomas led ASU with 10 kills with only one error in 18 attacks.

FVSU will look to regroup for this weekend's HBCU Classic Tournament held at Edward Waters where it begins the three matches against Talladega University at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3.
