Tigers Take Wildcats Volleyball Monday Night

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Wildcats had their moments on Monday night, but not enough. Fort Valley State battled back in both of the opening two sets, but Edward Waters held on each time and took the 3-0 women's volleyball match final.

After trailing by more than five points in the opening set, Syraih Wint killed a point and lined a service ace to pull FVSU (1-6) to within three, 14-11. EWC (7-5), though ran off six-straight points late for the 25-14 first set final. The Wildcats came back in the second stanza to within four points twice late, 19-15 and 21-17, but they could get no closer in the 25-17 final. The Tigers finished the match with two big third-set runs and a 25-7 total.

Raven Edwards paced FVSU with five kills, while freshman Morgan Gooden added four. Lailani McCullough handed out 15 assists to go with three digs and an ace, while Sarah Rosario dug 12 attacks while she had two assists and two aces. Destinee Jackson added six digs and Morgan Hebert five.

FVSU returned right back to action on Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 13, in a 4 p.m. match against Trinity Baptist.
