Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Chris Myers

Golden Rams Slip Past Wildcats in Final Two Minutes

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – In a back-and-forth momentum game, it came down to one final turn Saturday night. Tied for the ninth time in the second half, Albany State stole a pass and hit a 3-pointer and it turned out to be just enough to hold on for the road men's basketball upset over Fort Valley State, 69-67.

Khadim Samb converted an inside 3-point play and the Wildcats (8-11/6-6 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference East) edged ahead, 60-59, at 3:21 left. Joe Williams added a free throw for a two-point difference, 61-59, but the Golden Rams made it nine ties moments later with their own free throws. ASU made five of six free throws from there and held a six-point, 69-66, edge at 23 seconds. Myson Lowe hit a deep trey seven seconds later (69-66) and K.J. Doucet added a free throw at 10 seconds. Following two missed ASU free throws with six seconds, Williams pulled down the rebound and Lowe raced up the court only to see his game-tying attempt fall short.

Lowe led all scorers on the night for 21 points to lead FVSU, including 9 of 10 free throws. Doucet added 13 points and five rebounds, while Samb had 11 points and seven boards.

Maurice Dickson paced the Golden Rams with 12 points and four assists.

ASU led early in the game by seven points in the first six minutes, before FVSU held a lead of as many as nine, 27-18, at 6:05 to go in the first half.

FVSU has only one day off until it hosts Morehouse College on Monday night, Jan. 23. Tip is set for 7:30 p.m.
