Clark Atlanta Bites FVSU in Final Moments

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – Just as it was on Wednesday night, the Wildcats and Panthers came down to the end again on Saturday. Clark Atlanta took the lead with 42 seconds and Fort Valley State's final three potential game-winning shots were off the mark in last 23 seconds of the 59-57 men's basketball final.
 
FVSU (9-13/7-8 SIAC East) led for the first 34:30 of the contest and by as many as 10 points 15:28 into the contest. The Panthers (6-15/5-10 SIAC East) inched closer the second half until making a 10-0 run for a five-point lead, 54-49, with 3:40 left. Sincere Whitehead made a pair of free throws to give the Wildcats a 57-56 lead with 1:02, before the Panthers went back ahead with 42 second on an inside bucket. K.J. Doucet's shots with 23, 11 and seven seconds were off the mark to give Clark Atlanta the slim win.
 
Doucet finished with a FVSU-high 17 points to go with five rebounds and two steals. Khadim Samb added 14 points on 5 of 6 attempts, including a pair of treys, while he grabbed five boards and blocked three shots. Myson Lowe chipped in seven tallies.
 
Demetrius Headspeth had 13 points, including the game-winning basket, for Clark Atlanta.
 
FVSU makes the return trip to Atlanta on Monday night, Jan. 30, for a 7:30 p.m. contest at Morehouse College.
