Wildcats Final Shots Fall Off, Lose Heartbreaking 2 OT Slugfest to Morehouse

ATLANTA, Ga. – Every Forbes Arena fan, no matter what team they supported, saw an intense show Monday night. After K.J. Doucet pulled his team within two points with 46 seconds left in double overtime, Fort Valley State saw two final shots in the last eight seconds fall off and allowed Morehouse College the slim 66-64 men's basketball win.

Trailing 46-42 with 5:16 left in regulation, Sincere Whitehead laid in a putback (2:22) and Doucet tied the game at 1:56. Neither team added another point from there to send the contest to extra basketball.

In the first overtime down 56-55 with 28 seconds, Doucet converted a 3-point play for a 58-56 edge at 19 seconds. The Maroon Tigers (11-8/8-6 SIAC East) retied the contest on a layup with 16 ticks. Both teams missed a shot each in the final 15 seconds to force a second overtime.

Morehouse went out to a 66-60 advantage in the first 2:55 of the second extra five minutes. Doucet pulled FVSU (9-14/7-9 SIAC East) back with a layup at 1:36 and a pair of free throws with 46 seconds to go for the 66-64 score. After the Maroon Tigers missed two free throws to seal the game, the Wildcats could not take advantage and sink either of the final two attempts in the last eight seconds.

Doucet pumped in 24 points for the Wildcats. Quincy Young hit 5 for 11 tries for 10 points and four rebounds. Both JaMarcus Scott and Rob Kendrick chipped in seven points.

Morehouse outrebounded FVSU, 43-31. Kerry Richardson led the way with a double-double of 22 points and 12 rebounds.

In the first half, FVSU controlled most of it. The Wildcats led by at least two scores and extended the margin to as much as 10 points, 27-17, before a 27-21 halftime tally.

After a Doucet trey to make it 39-35, Morehouse put in the following eight points for a 43-39 lead with 11:27 left.

FVSU will have the rest of the week off before it travels to Columbia, S.C., for a Saturday afternoon, Feb. 4, game at Benedict College. Tip is set for 3 p.m.
