Wildcats Defeat Tigers, Post First Victory of 2023

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – Battling through lineup adversity all weekend, the Wildcats were able to prevail on Sunday. Fort Valley State finished off the pivotal third set in extra points and went on for its first win of the season in a 3-1 victory over Campbellsville University.

After splitting the opening two sets (25-21, 19-25), FVSU (1-4) went ahead, 24-20 on an Oshane Farquharson kill. The Tigers (1-2) ran off the next four points to tie at 24. Rashaun Wright answered with a Wildcat winner and the Tigers hit an attack error to finish set 3, 26-24. FVSU rode the momentum into set 4 and led the entire set, before Jamil Scott finished the match with a kill and 25-21.

Isaiah Fedd, Farquharson, Jaxon Hicks and Scott all four were in double-digit kills for FVSU. Fedd downed 13 kills with sixdigs and an ace, while Farquharson swatted 12 kills without an error in 22 swings for a .545 attack percentage. Hicks added 11 kills, six digs and six total blocks. Scott chipped in 10 kills, hit .400 and four digs.

Jose Gallardo handed out 45 assists, five digs and three total blocks. Diego Cardona dug 11 attacks.
