FVSU Sweeps Saturday Pair, Moves Over .500 Mark

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Wildcats can see their progress as a program and it continued on Saturday. Fort Valley State swept both Central State and Kentucky State in 3-0 matches and moved back over the .500 mark on the season.
 
In the morning match, FVSU took care of Central State in scores of 25-22, 25-21 and 25-20. For the final match of the day, the Wildcats ran past the Thorobreds of Kentucky State in 25-13, 26-24 and 25-17 fashion.
 
With the two Wildcat wins, the squad moves back over the .500 mark at 9-8. The nine wins also is the most victories since going 9-25 for the 2013 campaign, nine seasons ago.
 
Freshman middle blocker Laila Hilton led the FVSU attack on the day. She finished with a combined 27 kills to go with three aces, two blocks and four digs. Morgan Hebert was right behind with 17 kills and Hallea Gibbs added 15 kills, 18 digs and three aces. Laiani McCullough directed the offense to 55 assists, 13 digs and eight kills. Nakaia Berekley registered 12 digs.
 
FVSU has the week off until it hosts rival Albany State this Friday evening, Oct. 6, in a 6 p.m. first serve.
