Panthers Slip Past Wildcats Volleyball

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Wildcats were a run away of making an early statement Wednesday night. Fort Valley State came up a short-scoring burst in each of the first two sets, took the third, but it could not hold the momentum as Clark Atlanta slipped out of the HPE Arena with the 3-1 women's volleyball win.

The Lady Panthers (12-7/9-3 SIAC East) put the points on the board when they had to in the first two sets with strong finishes (21-25 and 19-25). The Wildcats (10-10/5-8 SIAC East) fended off the visitors late for a 25-23 set three decision. After falling behind 12-2 in set number four, FVSU battled back to within three points three times – 16-13, 17-14 and 18-15 – but could get no closer as Clark Atlanta completed its victory, 17-25.

Nia Mack downed nine kills over the final three sets to lead the Wildcat frontline. Morgan Hebert added six kills and Brooke Matthews had five kills, seven blocks and two aces.

Laiani McCullough handed out 27 assists to go with three kills, seven digs and four blocks. Morgan Gooden chipped in four blocks and three kills. Nakaia Berekley dug 12 attacks.

Shynique McGee was the long double-figure kill producer with 12 for CAU.

FVSU had Thursday off before it hosts Edward Waters in a Friday, Oct. 13th, match starting at 7 p.m.
