Wildcats Push Lady Rams, But Fall Short

ALBANY, Ga. – For a second time in 11 days, the Wildcats competed hard against one of the top of the Division. Fort Valley State pushed Albany State, but it fell short, 3-0, on the Tuesday evening women's volleyball court.
 
Tied at 11 in the first set, FVSU (10-12/5-10 SIAC East) stayed close with a one-point deficit (17-16), before ASU ran off the next five tallies on the way to a 25-19 win. The Wildcats started strong on set number two with two-point early leads of 7-5 and 8-6. ASU edged ahead, 18-13, before the visitors mounted a rush, including a 6-1 spurt, to take a 24-23 lead. The home team, though, netted three of the last four points for a 27-25 extra-point win. The Wildcats rallied to pull to within 15-11 in the third set, but the Lady Rams finished the match with one final surge, 25-14.
 
For FVSU, Morgan Hebert downed a team-best six kills to go with five assists, four digs and a block. Laiani McCullough handed out 17 assists along with three aces, four digs and a block. Raven Edwards chipped in five kills and Nakaia Berekley dug 12 attacks.
 
ASU received nine winners from each of Kaylin Teasley and Khamari Trotter.
 
FVSU will now have a week off until it hosts Savannah State in a 6 p.m. match on Tuesday, Oct. 24.
