Wildcats Sweep Past Panthers Thursday Night

LAGRANGE, Ga. – The Wildcats were able to get back in the win column Thursday night. Fort Valley State went out to leads it never gave up in the opening two sets, before a six-point run fueled the third set victory and 3-0 women's volleyball sweep at LaGrange College.
 
FVSU (11-13) put the night's first four points on the scoreboard and never trailed in the opening set to a tune of 25-20. After the Panthers scored the first point, the Wildcats ran off six-straight tallies and again never trailed from there for the 25-22 second set win. LaGrange started strong in the third set with 3-0 and 6-1 advantages. Behind 10-6, FVSU put the following six points on the scoreboard and rode it the rest of the set to close out the match, 25-21.
 
Morgan Hebert had the big offensive night with 12 kills and no errors in 26 attacks for a .462 hit percentage. She also added 14 digs, seven assists and a block.

Hallea Gibbs downed eight kills of her own to go with 10 digs and a pair of aces. Laila Hilton pounded eight winners and dug two attacks. Brooke Matthews finished with three kills, two aces, two blocks and two digs in a balanced line. Laiani McCullough chipped in 13 assists, 10 digs and four aces. Kaila Copeland added four digs.

LaGrange's Meredith Orton led the home team with nine kills and 10 digs.
 
FVSU stays on the road where it will face SIAC East foes Allen University and Benedict College in back-to-back matches at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. in Columbia, S.C. on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 29.
