Harp Earns SIAC Football Defensive Player of the Week Honors

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Wildcats set the tone last Saturday afternoon. Fort Valley State's Malik Harp picked off the game's opening play and earned the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Football Defensive Player of the Week honors with his day's effort.
 
After Harp's interception, the FVSU offense turned the turnover into the game's first points on a touchdown four plays later. The Wildcats went on for the 37-26 victory over the Dragons of Virginia University of Lynchburg.
 
On the day, the junior linebacker led the FVSU defense with seven total tackles with one of those for a loss. His first-quarter interception was returned 13 yards to setup the opening touchdown and he also had one quarterback hurry on the afternoon.
 
For the season, the Orlando, Fla., native leads the Wildcat defense with 58 tackles (6.4 per game). He also is tops on the squad with 13.5 tackles for loss of 40 yards to go with two interceptions, three breakups, four quarterback hurries and a sack.
 
Harp and the Wildcats finish the regular season this Saturday, Nov. 4, in a 2 p.m. game against rival Albany State at the 33rd Annual Fountain City Classic.
