Bobcats Hold on Over Wildcats in Tight Hoops Battle

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – Heading into the final matchup before Thanksgiving, two foes a short distance apart gave a good close contest. In a tight battle all night, Georgia College did just enough to hold on over Fort Valley State, 72-67, in men's basketball Tuesday night.

Down 68-64 with 53 seconds left, Davorian Rudolph pulled down the missed Georgia College free throw and Kenton Eskridge found Myson Lowe in the deep right corner for his lone triple of the night for a 68-67 tally at 43 ticks. Following a pair of Bobcats (5-0) free throws with 21 seconds, Eskridge fired up a potential game-tying top-of-the-key 3-pointer to no avail with five seconds for the home team's final chance.

FVSU had a tough time from the home floor as it hit only 18 of 58 (31.0%) attempts from the floor, including 5 of 20 from long-range. Khadim Samb paced the home attack with 22 points as he was 11 of 12 from the foul line go wo with eight rebounds. Rudolph chipped in 10 points on 4 of 6 shots, grabbed seven boards and blocked a pair of shots. Jahlen Jack and Pierre Mitchell added eight and seven points.

Georgia College had a balanced scoring line with four double-digit scorers led by Ian Davis' 16 points off the bench.

In the first half, the two teams saw seven ties and four lead changes until the Bobcats led 34-32 at half.

FVSU (0-5) netted the opening six points of half number two for what would be its largest lead of the stanza of four points. Georgia College (5-0) tied the contest for the first of six second-half times with 11:43 left and went ahead by a point, 44-43. The Bobcats led by five points twice, before the Wildcats tied the game two more times.

FVSU returns to its home floor to start SIAC Crossover contests this Saturday, Nov. 25, in a 3 p.m. game against Tuskegee University.
