Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Chris Myers

Wildcats Rally Over Golden Tigers, Post Opening Victory

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Wildcats were so close to having the exact opposite record in the early season and they made sure to put the 'W' in the win column Saturday. Trailing by as many 11 points in the first half and seven points with 11 minutes in the game, Fort Valley State rallied over Tuskegee, 80-72, and posted the opening men's basketball victory of the season.

After a Golden Tiger free throw made it a 62-55 score with 11:05, the Wildcats (1-5) went on their key run of the contest. Khadim Samb downed his lone bucket of the day, a 3-pointer, to start what would be a 13-0 run over a 4:46 time period. Jamal Reynolds laid in a pair of driving layups off his own steals, and Kenton Eskridge hit 4 of 4 free throws and Joe Williams looped in his own pair of foul shots to make it 68-62 at 6:19. Tuskegee answered with one foul shot, but Davorian Rudolph's top-of-the-key triple buried the visiting teams chances with 5:15 in the affair.

Eskridge hit only 4 of 12 field goals, but he drained all 12 of his free throws for a FVSU-best 20 points to go with three assists and three steals. Despite only having four points in the first half due to foul trouble, Myson Lowe dropped in 13 second-half tallies, including three from long-range, for 17 points to go with three assists.

Rudolph hit 2 of his 3 treys for nine points and grabbed 10 rebounds, nine defensive and swatted two shots off the bench. Jahlen Jack contributed seven points and Michael Noulowe added six points.

D'Anthony Pennington put in 21 points in the first half and added 10 more in the final 20 minutes for a 31-point day on 9 of 18 field goals and 5 of 8 from 3-point range to lead Tuskegee.

The Golden Tigers made its big run midway through the first half and held a 32-21 advantage at 5:59. FVSU, though, regained its footing and outscored the visitors, 16-7, in the final five minutes to only trail 39-37 at intermission.

FVSU continues its home swing on Monday night, Nov. 27, in a 7:30 p.m. contest against Spring Hill College.
