Spring Hill Rides Strong Opening Half, Holds off FVSU’s Second-Stanza Charge

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Wildcats went in riding off their first victory, but the ride could not be duplicated Monday night. Spring Hill College rode a strong opening half and held off the Fort Valley State men's basketball second-stanza charge for the 69-58 road win.

The Badgers (4-3) took a tie game and went on a 13-2 run over a 4:51 period of time and opened a 19-8 advantage midway through the opening half. Trailing by as many as 19 points in the first two minutes of the second half, the Wildcats (1-6) went on their own 13-1 spurt capped by a Myson Lowe 3-pointer to bring it to a six-point margin, 47-41, with 11:28 left in the contest. Spring Hill, though, refused to give up the lead and did not let the home team any closer the rest of the way.

Lowe finished with high-point FVSU honors with 19 points on 6 of 14 attempts with a pair of 3-pointers. He also added three rebounds, an assist and a steal. Khadim Samb chipped in nine points and three boards, while Kenton Eskridge had five points, four assists, two rebounds and two steals. Pierre Mitchell netted 10 points, five rebounds and two assists off the bench.

On its home floor, FVSU had a tough shooting night where it went 7 of 31 from the field and only 1 of 8 from long-range in the first half and then finished 16 of 60 on the night (26.7%).

Walter Peggs, Jr. posted game honors with 20 points, including five 3-pointers, for Spring Hill.

FVSU heads west to Memphis to take on LeMoyne-Owen College on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 2, in a 3 p.m. tip-off on HBCUGo.
