Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Chris Myers

Wildcats Take Control in Second Half, Down Golden Rams

ALBANY, Ga. – The Wildcats were looking forward to the rematch after losing to their rival in late January on their Homecoming night. Fort Valley State took control with 10-straight point midway through the second half and downed Albany State for a men's basketball Homecoming gift to its host, 66-56, Saturday night.

After both teams enjoyed five-point spurts in the opening second half minutes, FVSU (11-15/9-10 SIAC East) turned a 45-40 lead into 55-40 margin with 9:40 left in the game behind Quincy Young's two buckets and two rebounds in the run. Following Pierre Mitchell's free throws to finish the 10-0 Wildcat run, the visiting squad never saw its lead dip under double digits over the last nine minutes of action.

K.J. Doucet paced the Wildcats with 17 points and seven rebounds. Myson Lowe was right behind with a 6 of 10 from the floor night, including a pair of treys, for 14 points. Mitchell downed two 3-pointers of his own and finished with 10 tallies and two assists. Young posted seven points and seven rebounds, while Khadim Samb added seven points and four boards.

Maurice Dickson led ASU (7-19/7-12 SIAC East) with 14 points.

Mitchell hit his two 3-pointers in the first half. His first gave FVSU a 19-12 lead at 11:32 before his second put difference to double figures, 24-14, for the first time. Lowe connected for a jumper with 3:04 in the first half for the Wildcats largest lead of the opening half, 37-25, before the Golden Rams netted the final five points for a 37-30 intermission tally.

FVSU will have a week off before entertaining Edward Waters next Saturday, Feb. 18, in a 3 p.m. contest.
