FVSU Uses Early Second-Half Burst, Holds on Over Edward Waters

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Wildcats were able to hold strong the final moments and sent the Senior Day crowd home happy. Fort Valley State opened the second half with the first seven points to take the lead and held on in the final minute over Edward Waters, 81-78, in men's basketball.

Trailing 34-32 at intermission, Myson Lowe hit a jumper to tie, Khadim Samb stole the next Tigers possession and found K.J. Doucet for the breakaway slam dunk and the Wildcats never trailed again of the final 18:43. Lowe added a triple following a Jamal Reynolds steal to complete the 7-0 spurt.

The Wildcats (12-15/10-10 SIAC East) saw their lead go to as many as 10 points twice, 60-50 and 62-52, with just over eight minutes left. Edward Waters (5-20/4-16 SIAC East) chipped away and came to within a point, 79-78, with 4.4 seconds left, but Doucet iced the home victory with two free throws with 3.3 ticks showing.

FVSU saw five players hit double figures led by Doucet's 22-point day on 7 of 14 from the floor to go with six rebounds, three assists and two steals. Lowe was right behind with 19 points, including a trio of treys. Reynolds added 11 points, six rebounds, six assists and three steals. Samb and lone senior JaMarcus Scott both finished with 10 points on the day.

Adnan Hussein drained four 3-pointers as part of his 17 points to lead the Tigers.

FVSU finishes its regular season with a Tuesday night, Feb. 21, 7:30 p.m. contest against Savannah State.
