Game Recap: Men's Volleyball | | Chris Myers

Knights Best Wildcats Volleyball Friday

BELMONT, N.C. – The Wildcats were right there all Friday night, but it wasn't enough. Belmont Abbey College went out to a two-set lead and it had enough to hold off Fort Valley State in the fourth set to take the men's volleyball matchup, 3-1.

After coming up on the short of late Knights (5-8) home runs in the first two sets (17-25 and 18-25), the Wildcats' (2-8) Jamil Scott led a key five-point burst to build a 23-19 lead in an eventual 25-23 third set win. The two teams traded punches in the fourth set when Belmont Abbey turned a one-point margin into four-point difference, 19-15. FVSU pulled back to within three twice, 19-16 and 20-17, but it ran out of time in a 25-19 final.

Scott powered the Wildcat attack with career-high 16 kills to go with three digs, a block and an assist. Isaiah Fedd added 12 kills, five digs, an ace and an assist. Taviian Martin chipped in six kills and four blocks. Justin Yates handed out 37 assists and dug 10 attacks for a double-double along with two kills and two blocks.

FVSU completes its three games in three days road trip with a Saturday afternoon, Feb. 18, contest at Limestone College. First serve is 2 p.m.
