Saints Take Wildcats in Four Saturday

GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Wildcats fell short of taking home a second win of their three-match road trip Saturday afternoon. Limestone College claimed the third and fourth sets and took the men's volleyball victory over Fort Valley State, 3-1.
 
After a tough opening set (25-9), the Wildcats bounced back in the set number two. Trailing 24-23, FVSU took the next two points including a Jaxon Hicks kill for a 25-24 score. Following a Limestone (7-5) point to tie, Oshane Farquharson downed a winner and a home attack error tied the match at 1-1 with the 27-25 visitor win.
 
In the third set, FVSU put together four points in a row for a 9-7 lead, but Limestone grabbed the advantage and held a 22-18 advantage. Hicks killed a Wildcat point, but the Saints put the final three points on the board for the 25-19 final.
 
Isaiah Fedd killed a point and served an ace to pull the visitors to within a point, 10-9, of the Saints of set four. Limestone bounced back with three points in a row and did not allow FVSU any closer than two points three times the rest of the fourth set of a 25-21 score.
 
Fedd led FVSU with 13 kills to go with three digs, two assists, two aces and two blocks. Hicks added eight kills and three digs. Devonte Payton hit for four kills, two solo blocks and eight digs. Justin Yates finished with 28 assists, nine digs and one kill.
 
Albert Warzocha downed 14 kills to pace the Saints effort.
 
FVSU returns home for its next match on Friday evening, Feb. 24, against Tusculum University starting at 6 p.m.
