Wildcats Finalize Victory Over Pioneers in Five

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Wildcats regained control at just the right time Friday evening. After taking the opening two sets, Fort Valley State took four-straight points in the fifth set and used the run to finalize its men's volleyball victory over Tusculum University, 3-2.

After the visiting Pioneers (3-11) gained momentum through both the third and fourth sets (25-12 and 25-17), the Wildcats (3-9) reversed the match trend when they needed. Trailing 6-5 in the fifth set, FVSU received back-to-back-to-back kills from Isaiah Fedd, Justin Yates and Oshane Farquharson to edge ahead, 8-5. Fedd lined a service ace to complete the spurt before he added another two winners after one Tusculum point to make it 11-7. The home team did not give up the lead and went on for the 15-8 final.

The Wildcats came out on the night with everything working, including the final three points of the first set for the 25-21 win. FVSU carried its play into set number two to the tune of 25-12 as it hit 12 kills in each of the first two sets.

Jaxon Hicks pounded 15 kills over the first four sets to lead the FVSU attack to go with three blocks. Fedd finished with 13 kills and 11 digs for a double-double along with three block assists and three aces. De'Vonte Payton chipped in six kills, seven digs, two blocks and an ace. Farquharson had seven kills, hit .417, seven blocks and two aces. Justin Yates handed out 40 assists to go with four kills and three blocks.

Colby Landry led all hitters with 19 kills and a .519 percentage for the Pioneers.

FVSU completes its home weekend with a 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon (Feb. 25) match against Lincoln Memorial.
