Wildcats Bit by Bobcats on Softball Opening Day

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – After a wet week forced some schedule shuffling, the 2023 Wildcats took the field on Sunday afternoon. Georgia College bit Fort Valley State for both teams first two season games by a 4-1 and 8-0 final softball scores.
 
Trailing 2-0 in the top of the third, Raven Webb lined her first collegiate extra-base hit with a double to left to drive home Eyndirrah Jones, who had pinch ran after a Selena Linsenbach single. The Bobcats added two insurance runs in the fourth for the 4-1 final.
 
Georgia College took advantage of four FVUS costly early errors to open a 7-0 advantage after three frames of the late contest. The home team closed the game in the home fifth with another unearned run.
 
Webb recorded the Wildcats lone extra-base hit out of the team's five in 12 at bats. Linsenbach, Destiny Fitzpatrick, Laila Leverett and Makayla Cruz each singled once.
 
FVSU opens its home schedule with a rescheduled twin bill against Montreat College on Monday afternoon, Feb. 6, with game times of 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
