Wildcat Football Announces 2023 Schedule

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – Coming off the most successful season in a decade, the Wildcats are ready for the drive for Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference gold this fall! Fort Valley State announces the 2023 football schedule set to kick off the first Saturday of September.

With a solid opening campaign under his belt, FVSU Head Coach Shawn Gibbs and his staff will have 10 straight weeks of gridiron action this fall. The Wildcats' upcoming schedule will be a balanced one with four home, four away, and two neutral site contests.

For the third year in a row, the 2023 schedule begins with the Red Tails Classic versus 2022 SIAC West champion Tuskegee University in Montgomery, Ala., on Sept. 2. It is the first of four games away from Wildcat Stadium in September. FVSU will play true road games in week two at Clark Atlanta (Sept. 9), in game four at Kentucky State (Sept. 23), and the following weekend at Allen University (Sept. 30).

In the lone home date of September, FVSU welcomes Edward Waters University to "The Valley" for the first time in 16 seasons and the first meeting between the programs since 2009.

For October, the Wildcats will enjoy its home field three times of the four scheduled dates. FVSU starts the month by hosting Savannah State for the sixth game of the season (Oct. 7), before its last road game in Columbia, S.C., against defending SIAC champion Benedict College on Oct. 14.

The biggest celebration week and football tailgating happens the third week of October. The Maroon Tigers of Morehouse College comes to battle the Wildcats for 2023 "Homecoming in The Valley" on Oct. 21.

The final FVSU Blue and Gold home game and lone non-SIAC opponent finishes October. FVSU entertains Virginia University of Lynchburg on the final Saturday on Oct. 28.

In the 33rd edition, FVSU completes the 2023 regular season schedule as it will try for its second win in a row over rival Albany State at the prestigious Fountain City Classic in Columbus, Ga. After the parade through the city, the rivalry renews in a 2 p.m. kick-off on Nov. 4.

This fall will be the first for the SIAC to be a one 13-team Division Conference. FVSU has eight of the same opponents it faced in 2022, with only two of the four home-game foes being different in Edward Waters and Virginia University of Lynchburg. The Wildcats play their 10 games in four different states of Georgia, Alabama, and Kentucky, and two road games in the Columbia, South Carolina area.

**2023 Wildcat Stadium item of note – FVSU and the Wildcat athletics department will move to a cashless game experience. Tickets will be only purchased online at wildcatticketoffice.com or on gameday by scanning posted QR codes.
