Game Recap: Men's Volleyball | | Chris Myers

Knights Overtake Wildcats in Straight Sets

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – It was a nice day outside of the HPE Arena, but the Wildcats struggled to find their flow inside on the court. Belmont Abbey scored the final three points of the opening set and went on for a 3-0 men's volleyball victory over Fort Valley State Saturday afternoon.

After Isaiah Fedd downed a winner to pull FVSU (4-12) to within a point, 22-21, in the first set, Belmont Abbey killed the next point and finished the set following back-to-back home errors for the 25-21 final. The Knights tripled a three-point set number two lead into a 19-10 advantage and rode it to a 25-15 score. The Wildcats pulled back to within two points late, 20-18, of the third set only to see the visitors have the luxury of another pair of home errors to end the match, 25-21.

Jaxon Hicks led FVSU with nine kills to go with three digs, a block and an ace. Fedd and Taviian Martin added six kills apiece. Justin Yates handed out 24 assists, while both liberos Diego Cardona and Jaequon Henderson dug six attacks.

Matthew Staskunas held top honors with 17 kills for Belmont Abbey.

FVSU returns to SIAC action in a Tuesday evening (March 14) match at Morehouse College starting at 6 p.m.
