JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – In the first meeting with the 2023 conference leader, the Wildcats could not capitalize. Fort Valley State lost a close opener, held the lead in the second, and could not get the final set momentum as Edward Waters had enough to get past it, 3-0, in Sunday afternoon men's volleyball.

Trailing 7-6 early in the first set, FVSU (5-16/2-3 SIAC) was down by a slim two points seven times with the final one at 21-23, before EWU (10-4/7-0 SIAC) posted the final trio of points for the 25-21 final. Down 13-10 in set number two, the Wildcats ran off five of the next six points for a 15-14 edge. Still leading 16-15, FVSU saw the home team go on a 10-1 run to finish the set, 25-17. The Tigers rode the set two momentum and opened the third with a 6-1 lead. The visitors could not get any closer than four points the rest of the way before they fell by the same 25-17 tally.

Jacquee Taylor led the FVSU attack with eight kills, three digs and a block. Taviian Martin added six kills with only one error in 11 attacks (.455) and one block. Jaxon Hicks chipped in six kills and a pair of digs. Justin Yates handed out 22 assists, while he had four digs, an ace and a kill.

Kaeleh Ingram led all hitters with 16 kills for EWU.

FVSU returns home to the HPE Arena for a Thursday night, March 30, 6 p.m. matchup against Morehouse College.
