Wildcats’ Doucet Named D2 HBCU All-American

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – After being named the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's top player, the Wildcat adds another prestige honor to his list. Fort Valley State's K.J. Doucet was named to the D2 HBCU All-America First Team sponsored by BOXTOROW announced on Monday.
 
Doucet and Spring Hill's Beril Kabamba were the lone two SIAC members to make the First Team. Tuskegee's Devin Booker and Greg Boyd and Kerry Richardson of Morehouse College were league members on the Second Team.
 
The Wildcat from Austell, Ga., burst onto the scene a year ago and has continued to elevate his game with each time he donned the FVSU Blue & Gold uniform. The SIAC's top player finished the regular season where he averaged 16.2 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.1 steals per game. K.J. was fifth in scoring, 11th in free throw percentage (.755 – 139 of 184) and 17th in rebounding among his league counterparts. The 2021-22 SIAC Freshman of the Year improved his scoring by 1.3 points per contest and handed out 17 more assists.
 
Doucet finished the 2022-23 with his best stretch of production of the season, which coincided with the FVSU team going 4-1 in those final five contests. Over those five games, the 6-7 wing player averaged 21.8 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.8 assists per contest. The three-time SIAC Player of the Week completed the season with a career-high 31 points to go with 10 rebounds, his second double-double of the year, two assists, a block and a steal.
 
The second-year Wildcat led the team in points scored (484), field goals made (149) and free throws made (152), while he is second in rebounds (152), assists (59), steals (32) and 3-pointer field goals made (34). Doucet scored in double figures in 27 of 29 games this season with eight 20-plus point outings.
 
In his first 57 games, Doucet has netted 902 points (15.8 ppg), 74 3-pointers made, 302 rebounds (5.3 rpg), 99 assists (1.7 apg), 63 steals and 18 blocked shots.

As the 2022-23 college basketball season begins to wind down, the 14th annual Division II HBCU All-America teams powered by BOXTOROW are released.
 
Virginia Union forward Robert Osborne has been named the HBCU has been named HBCU Division II Player of the Year. The senior from Richmond, Va. helped lead the Panthers to the CIAA Northern Division crown and an appearance in the NCAA regionals. He led the CIAA in scoring (20.2) and field goal percentage (.515) and was second in the CIAA in rebounding (8.8). His 15 double doubles led the CIAA and were tied for sixth in Division II.   
 
Tuskegee head coach Benji Taylor has been named HBCU Division II Coach of the Year. In his fourth season as the head coach of the Golden Tigers, he led them to the SIAC Western Division crown. The Golden Tigers' 20-9 record was five games better than last year and earned Tuskegee an at-large berth in the NCAA regionals.
 
BOXTOROW has administered the All-America teams since 2009.
