Lady Tigers’ Two Triples Help Take Saturday Contest from Wildcats

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – On a beautiful Saturday afternoon, the Wildcats came up a bit short on the diamond. Edward Waters used multiple run-scoring triples in the first and fifth and helped take the final weekend contest from Fort Valley State, 5-1.

After the first two-run triple in the top of the first gave the visitors a 2-0 lead, FVSU (5-9/3-3 SIAC East) put its lone tally on the scoreboard. Mariah Williams laid down a lead-off bunt, stole second and move to third on the second out, before Laila Leverett blistered a liner up the middle to drive her home to cut the margin in half, 2-1. The Lady Tigers (14-1/3-0 SIAC East) received a two-out, three-run triple to deep left field to break open the contest, 5-1. The Wildcats used up their hits in the first inning as the home club did not manage to get another hit the last six at bats.

Williams and Levett recorded the two FVSU hits on the day.

FVSU will next travel to Jasper, Ala., for the SIAC Crossover three-day event. It will take on Miles College at 12 p.m. and Spring Hill College at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 9.
