Wildcats Fail to Finish Match, Tigers Rally for Win

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – With an active home crowd, the Wildcats took two of the first three close sets for a 2-1 lead. Fort Valley State fell short in finishing the match as Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference-leading Edward Waters rallied for the final two sets for the 3-2 men's volleyball win.

After splitting the opening two sets, 25-27 and 25-23, Jaxon Hicks down a winner for FVSU (7-18/4-5 SIAC) for a 24-22 lead in set 3 before the two teams exchange service errors to give the home team a 25-23 victory and 2-1 edge.

The Tigers (11-3/9-0 SIAC) went out to a 10-5 lead in the fourth set and built the margin to 21-11 before Dillon Taylor killed the final point at 25-15. Edward Waters continued its run with the opening six tallies of the match-deciding set and took an 8-4 lead into the fifth-set turn. FVSU pulled to withing three, 9-6 and 10-7, but it could get no closer as EWU completed its comeback, 15-8.

Hicks paced the FVSU attack with 12 kills to go with three blocks, three assists and two aces. Jacquee Taylor downed nine kills in the first two sets at a .467 percentage. Isaiah Fedd added seven kills and eight digs, while Taviian Martin chipped in six kills, three blocks and eight digs of his own. Justin Yates handed out 39 assists to go with eight digs, two blocks and two kills. Jamil Scott led the FVSU defenders with 12 digs.

Bryan Pepen led all attackers with 19 kills for the Tigers.
