FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Wildcats saw the victory, but they could not pull it in. Fort Valley State held a 2-1 lead Saturday night but it saw Benedict College edge the fourth set and continued on to the match-deciding set, 15-9, for the comeback, 3-2, men's volleyball victory.

Down 19-18 in set three, FVSU put the next three points and went on for the 25-21 victory to lead 2-1. The Wildcats led 21-20 in set four, but the Tigers (9-7) recorded the next three points and went on to edge the home team, 27-25. Tied at 7-7 in the fifth set, Ras Jesse Delancy down three kills of Benedict's four points in a row for an 11-7 lead before it ended at 15-9.

After falling in a close, 25-22, opener, FVSU (7-19) raced out to a 13-6 lead in set two and increased it to 19-10 before a 25-14 final to even the match at 1-1.

Jaxon Hicks paced the Wildcats hitters with 17 kills to go with 17 digs for the double double as well as four blocks and three assists. Taviian Martin added 15 kills, three blocks and two digs. Jacquee Taylor chipped in eight kills, while Jaequon Henderson posted his best game of the year with five kills, 16 digs, an ace and a block. Justin Yates handed out 29 assists and Jose Gallardo had 15 assists and three blocks.

Delancy downed 29 kills for Benedict.

FVSU moves on to the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in its HPE Arena starting next Thursday (April 20).
