Senior Trio Leads Wildcats to Series Sweep of Yellow Jackets

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Wildcats rode the pregame excitement and completed a three-game weekend series win. The senior trio of Caprice Johnson, Makayla Cruz and Destiny Fitzpatrick led Fort Valley State to a 10-2 run-rule Sunday afternoon victory over Allen University.
 
Johnson allowed only a single to the Yellow Jackets second hitter of the game as she went three frames and fanned two. Cruz recorded a perfect 2 for 2 day including a key two-run slice down the left field line for a double to give the Wildcats (12-17/9-8 SIAC East) a 6-0 lead in the home third. The Cruz two-bagger came after Fitzpatrick drove in the prior run with a solid single up-the-middle into center field.
 
Raven Webb completed the seven-run FVSU third at bat with her own rip down the third-base line for two more runs. E'Lisia Vickers drove her in both as the final run of the third and the game-winning run in the fifth on a double for the 10-2 final.
 
In her two circle appearances in the series, Johnson won both Game 1 and 3 over eight innings where she did not allow a run and only six hits while striking out nine without a walk.
 
Webb finished 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles, two runs and three RBI. Vickers was 2 for 2 driving in Webb on a single and a double along with being hit by a pitch in her first two trips to the plate. Both Mariah Williams and Laila Leverett added one single apiece.
 
FVSU has a week off before it hosts Paine College in a Tuesday, April 10, twinbill starting at 1 p.m.
