FVSU Coasts Past Kentucky State, Moves on to Semifinals

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – In the early start time of the season, the Wildcats motor purred from the start. Fort Valley State coasted past Kentucky State, 3-0, and moved onto the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Volleyball Semifinals.
 
Tied at 9-9 in the first set, FVSU (8-19) put four of the next five points on the scoreboard and opened a 14-10 advantage. The Wildcats did not allow the Thorobreds any closer than four the rest of the set for the 25-20 final. FVSU raced out to a 10-2 set number two lead and scored six of the final eight tallies of the set for the 25-15 score. The home Wildcats went out to a 7-0 third set advantage, increased it to 10 points at 15-5 and Jaxon Hicks finished the morning tilt with a kill for the final point, 25-13.
 
Taviian Martin downed a season-best 18 kills with only one error in 29 attacks for a .586 hit percentage to go with four blocks and five digs. Justin Yates handed out 25 assists and dug eight attacks, while Jamil Scott led the defense with 11 digs.
 
Both Jordan Howard and Christian Webb totaled seven kills for Kentucky State.
 
FVSU moves on to the SIAC Semifinals against top-seed Edward Waters in a 4 p.m. first serve.
